ACCURIZING THE 1911 PISTOL

At Angus Arms we specialize in accurizing 1911-type automatic pistols.  We can perform any 1911 service, from simple repairs to a trigger job to a complete rebuild of your gun.  If you choose to have your gun built into a match pistol, you can expect the following:

First, the frame and slide are completely stripped. The slide is then squeezed for a tight fit on the frame.  This is done with either a specially designed fixture in a hydraulic press, or a big vise with modified jaws.  After the horizontal play in the slide is removed, the slide and frame rails are measured and the frame rails are peened down to remove vertical play.

Next, a match grade barrel is fitted. We prefer Kart barrels but will fit other brands on request.  If a ramped barrel is required, the frame will be milled out to accept it.  The barrel hood and bottom lug will be oversized.  These areas can be cut to fit on the milling machine or by hand.  The chamber will be slightly short after the hood is trimmed to length so it will be reamed to proper headspace.  A barrel link is then selected and checked for fit with the slide stop.  The factory barrel bushing is replaced with a National Match type bushing having an undersized inside diameter and oversized outside diameter. These dimensions are fitted for minimum tolerance to the barrel and slide.

A lightweight match trigger with an overtravel stop is then fitted to the frame. The hammer and sear are honed for a trigger pull weight specified by the customer.  On NRA wadcutter guns, minimum pull weight is 3-1/2 pounds.

If an optical sight is specified, the slide or frame can be drilled, depending on what type of mount is chosen.  If iron sights are specified, the slide can be milled.

When completed, your pistol will be function fired and checked for feeding.  Ejection angle is checked if the pistol has optical sights- a lowered ejection port and extractor/ejector adjustment may be necessary.  When reliable function is achieved, the pistol is installed in a Ransom machine rest and test fired. NRA Bullseye wadcutter guns are expected to put 10 shots into 2 inches at 50 yards.  The customer will be supplied with test targets verifying that the pistol conforms to this standard.
