One of the fundamentals of building an accurate rifle is achieving a tight fit between the stock and the action. This is called bedding the rifle. On an M-14 or M-1 Garand, the first step is to rout out the stock to achieve approx. 1/8” clearance between the wood (or other stock material) and the rifle. The resulting gap is filled with Bisonite or another steel-impregnated epoxy. Before the epoxy hardens, the action is set into the stock at just the right angle to create downward pressure on the barrel at the lower band/stock ferrule point. This pressure bedding is critical if you want an accurate M-14 or Garand. On the M-14, the gas system also must be unitized to maintain consistent pressure.
A good bedding job should last for several thousand rounds before a touch-up is necessary. For maximum service life, avoid removing the action from the stock except when absolutely necessary.

Several barrel weights are available for the
M-14/M1A series of rifles. You may
select from light (original GI), medium or heavy profiles in either 4 or 6
groove rifling, with a 1/10, 1/11, or 1/12 twist. We prefer to use Barnett barrels for NRA Highpower competition
rifles. These are machined from air-gauged Douglas Premium blanks and are the
best value available. For competition
rifles we recommend a heavy-profile barrel with 6-grooves, 1/10 twist. We can also rebarrel your M1 Garand rifle. Garand barrels are available in standard
(GI) and medium weights.
Angus Arms Co. can rebarrel your M-14 or Garand rifle with the barrel of your choice. When considering barrels, remember that in order for a barrel to be truly match-grade it must have a groove diameter variation of no more than .0001” from the chamber to the muzzle. This measurement must be verified with an air gage. Many commercial barrels do not meet this standard. Check with the manufacturer if you have doubts.
Barrels provided upon request. E-Mail for availability.
If you have factory sights with 1 minute adjustments, consider upgrading to a National Match spec ½
minute set. Angus Arms can provide and install a complete new set for you.

Unitization of the gas system is an important modification to any match-prepared M14 to minimize front-end movement and maintain consistent pressure on the barrel. Highly recommended with stock bedding; also available as a separate service. We will need your gas cylinder, spindle valve and front band.
Angus Arms offers complete M14 accuracy and repair services. If there is a modification that is not listed here, or a repair that your rifle needs, please e-mail. We also build complete rifles on customer-supplied receivers.
